Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker declares Laneway the greatest Australian music festival

Tame Impala mastermind Kevin Parker has declared St Jerome’s Laneway the greatest Australian music festival.

Parker made the statement while onstage during the closing set of Laneway’s final date in Fremantle on Sunday.

“I truly believe this is the greatest Australian festival,” he told fans, before repeating the statement with a bit more emphasis and an expletive or two.

This was the last show of the band’s Currents tour, and Parker was clearly moved by the fact the tour was ending with a home gig.

“How amazing is it to be playing in Fremantle again?” he said.

“This is a part of the world that’s very special to me.”

Parker went on to say that he had always wanted to play Laneway and that he was stoked the planets had finally aligned to make it happen.

Although ol’ Kev was a bit emotional during his hometown show in Fremantle, that has to be one of the best endorsements a festival organiser could hope for.

Not bad for a little boutique festival that started in an actual Melbourne laneway in 2005.
