POLIÇA and s t a r g a z e reveal new single ‘Agree’
POLIÇA and s t a r g a z e are back with a new, melodic single called ‘Agree’.
This single serves as the second taster from their collaborative forthcoming album, Music For The Long Emergency, which will be released mid-February 2018.
When compared to the album’s debut single ‘How Is This Happening?’, a personal reaction to Trump’s administration which nobody could have foreseen, ‘Agree’ is a more direct and concise track with individualistic unfiltered vocals from POLIÇA’s Channy Leaneagh that fuse beautifully with s t a r g a z e’s thoughtful chamber arrangements.
Composer André de Ridder expresses much admiration for POLIÇA’s superb sense of harmony, and began to see how these two distinct ensembles could come together to bring their unique project to life by melding electronic sounds with organic elements.
“There was a lot of space in their music, in those electronic soundscapes,” he said when speaking of the release of the new single.
“I thought maybe we could fit in with that.
“I think it’s not a good idea to try and mimic the electronic sounds because they’re done so well and they’re so pristine. But what kind of organic elements can we add?”
Leaneagh shares Ridder’s collaborative approach, personally relishing the idea of creating sounds that blend together seamlessly, rather than any sort of competition for melodic dominance between sounds.
“My philosophy with POLIÇA and with this project was to try to be another instrument, to meld in and not always steal the show or overwhelm the sound,” she says.
“It’s just the quieting of not having the lyrics to tell you a feeling, it’s just the notes and the rhythm, and they leave room for your mind to sit.”
The single premiered on Billboard last week and exposes a different element of their upcoming album, with an emphasis placed on the powerful production skills of POLIÇA’s Ryan Olson.
POLIÇA and s t a r g a z e’s 7-track album, Music For The Long Emergency is set to be released February 16th, 2018.
