Five gigs to get to this weekend

Brisbane’s own ‘BYO couch and booze’ festival is set to make a spectacular return this Saturday, 22nd October, with live music, art, drum workshops and more brought to the forefront of the event.

The music lineup is one to salivate over, and includes headliners Art Vs Science and The Jungle Giants, plus performances from the likes of Owen RabbitMar HazeBenebBullhorn and a bunch more.

It all goes down at the amphitheatre off Foggs Road, and with a warm day forecast, it is sure to be the best way to spend your Saturday.

Here’s a classic by The Jungle Giants to get you in the mood…

Lisa Mitchell is back with her new album Warriors, and is celebrating with a national tour.

Better yet, she’ll be playing two shows at Newtown Social Club in Sydney this weekend on Saturday and Sunday night (22nd & 23rd October).

She’ll continue the tour into next weekend with shows in Perth and Adelaide, before jetting off to the UK early next year.

The album is a personal one for Mitchell, with much of it circulating around childhood and mythology in life.

The new LP comes on the back of Mitchell’s debut album Wonder, released in 2009, and 2012’s Bless This Mess.

Tickets to all her shows can be purchased here.

Sydney’s Lepers & Crooks are in the middle of a big national tour supporting their new EP The Heathen Circus, and this weekend they will be playing two shows in Victoria.

The group hit up Pelly Bar in Frankston on Friday, 21st October with Prymal and Tim Smyth & HolyTrash, and The Workers Club in Melbourne with Prymal once more and Busy Kingdom.

The Heathen Circus was produced by Jeff Martin at his ‘River House’ studio, a secluded musical retreat owned by The Tea Party frontman, set on 100 acres just outside of Byron Bay. It was released earlier this month.

Tickets to their shows are available here.

Perth’s Verge Collection have been riding a wave of hype since releasing their single Our Place last year, having since toured nationally, played BIGSOUND Festival, and performed at a range of other music events.

They finally released their EP Open Plan Living last month, and Saturday 22nd of October is the official launch.

Verge Collection will be playing at The Bird (maximum capacity is 175, so get down there early!), with Segue Safari and Dennis Cometti as the supporting bands.

Check out Class Of ’09 below, which comes from the EP…

As the new musical project of Angus Stone, Dope Lemon is already off to a flying start – after releasing the hugely popular Uptown Folk earlier this year, Dope Lemon has a debut album called Honey Bones and is taking it around the country.

The first two shows of the tour take place this weekend, with Dope Lemon playing at The Astor Theatre in Perth on Friday, 21st October, and Adelaide’s The Gov on Saturday, 22nd October.

Tickets for all shows on the tour can be purchased from Live Nation.

Music Insight recently interviewed Angus Stone on Dope Lemon and his future plans for the project – feel free to check it out here.
