Methyl Ethel, Stella Donnelly, Tired Lion lead WAMAward nominations

The nominees for WA music’s night of nights have been announced, with mesmerising indie pop quartet Methyl Ethel scoring a whopping seven nods for this year’s WAMAwards.

Recent BIGSOUND Levi’s Music Prize recipient and captivating performer Stella Donnelly scoops six nominations, with Triple J darlings Tired Lion and indie pop powerhouse San Cisco nominated five times each.

The Music Insight crew are pretty darn excited that our Falls Festival foster band Demon Days picked up two nominations themselves – Best Urban Act and Most Popular New Act, the latter being among six publicly voted awards (vote via The Music).

Other multi-nominated artists include politically-charged wordsmith Ziggy Ramo, funky soul orchestra Odette Mercy & Her Soul Atomics, gothic post-punk enigmas Nerve Quakes, heavy rock mainstays RAG N’ BONE and Afro-Peruvian style jazz drummer Daniel Susnjar.

Held as part of WAMFest, the awards party will be held on Thursday 2 November and features live performances from Tired Lion, Stella Donnelly, Harry Mitchell & Daniel Susnjar, John Bennett & David Hyams and Nerve Quakes, plus after party performances to be announced.

This year’s coveted WAMis will be announced during an evening peppered with performances from some of WA’s most exciting talents. Tickets will be available strictly by invite to nominated acts, WAMCon speakers with limited tickets available to the public.

Check out the huuuge list of nominations below, plus the lowdown on the awards party.
