Lorde releases new track ‘Green Light’, hints at Australian tour

Lorde fans rejoice.

The New Zealand megastar has released the first single from her sophomore album Melodrama.

Green Light dropped today, following a mysterious scavenger hunt yesterday that took fans all around Auckland looking for clues.

The song is noticeably upbeat compared with the slow-burners on her hugely successful debut album Pure Heroine.

An accompanying music video, also released today, was directed by Grant Singer (The Weeknd, Taylor Swift) and features the 20-year-old dancing up and down streets, in clubs and on car roofs.

Lorde, whose real name is Ella Yelich-O’Connor, told Triple J the song was about picking up the pieces after a break-up and emerging stronger than before.

“It’s a heartbreak-based song, a scorched earth type number,” she said.

“The song is not so much about the heartbreak but about ‘How am I going to dance my way through this and be okay tomorrow morning? I might not be okay right now but I will be soon. I’m going to get that green light and when I do, it’s going to be the greatest’.

“It’s so wonderful to know that we put the time in to make the best thing we could make and that I feel so pumped about putting it in the world,” she said.

Lorde also dropped a big, fat hint about an Australian tour.

“I will definitely, definitely be coming down under quite a bit sooner than people think,” she said.
