Kim Churchill returns with new single and national tour
Kim Churchill is back with new single Breakneck Speed, the first cut from his upcoming album to be released this year. Written in Quebec during an emotional ‘up’ for Churchill, it’s a fitting taste of a newly refreshed and energised performer. Churchill’s previous single Window To The Sky (from the album Silence/Win) reached #42 in Triple J’s Hottest 100 of 2014.
Breakneck Speed is available via digital services this Friday April 14 and, to coincide with the release, Churchill will be embarking on a string of tour dates this May and June.
Explaining the atmosphere that inspired the track, Churchill said:
“Breakneck Speed was born in Quebec City. It was autumn and we were racing around the province through these tunnels of colour that all the maple trees had become. Most days were under this electric blue sky as well. I was kinda on the way up emotionally. I’d been tired for a while. Like a few months… It felt like we had played a bajillion festivals and toured forever. Everything was flying by in a blur that was disorientating. But by the time we had arrived in the Quebec fall, I was out in front again and really felt in awe of the whole world and how fast we were racing through it. Kinda like a top of the world feeling. That song became my celebration of it all.”
Drawing inspiration from his time in Europe and sojourns to Sri Lanka and Canada, Churchill is currently putting the final touches on his next record – due for release in 2017.
Catch Churchill on tour next month joined by Michael Hardy (vocals/keys/drums) and Tom Myers (drums/vocals/percussion), both multi-instrumentalists in their own right.
