Kevin Gates releases two new tracks from upcoming mixtape
US rapper Kevin Gates just dropped two new tracks, ‘Money Long’ and ‘Great Man’ on Friday September 14. The tracks are pulled straight from his forthcoming mixtape Luca Brasi 3, due for release September 27.
Gates’ career kicked off in 2005 when he signed to Dead Game Records before releasing his debut mixtape Pick of Da Litter in 2007. Since then, he created his own record label, Bread Winners’ Association, and was signed to Atlantic Records.
Facing quite a few setbacks in his career, Kevin Gates was only just released on parole from prison for the seventh time in January this year. However this hasn’t stopped him, gaining US RIAA platinum certification for his mixtape Luca Brasi 2 and his debut album ISLAH, as well as gold certification for By Any Means.
Luca Brasi 3 will be Gates’ first mixtape since his release from prison earlier this year and is the third incarnation of his breakout mixtape The Luca Brasi Story, which was released back in 2013.
The two new tracks are quite thematically different, with ‘Money Long’ quite upbeat, yet a tad superficial, with lines such as “My money long, but my money longer”. ‘Great Man’ however, is more of a profound track, and meditates on the successes and setbacks within his life, and how money doesn’t always make you happy.
Along with releasing the two new tracks, Gates’ also dropped the music video for ‘Money Long’. Filmed in the Middle East, the video begins by depicting Gates in the centre of an arms deal, before following him walk the streets with the guns.
Luca Brasi 3 is due for release September 27 via Bread Winners’ Association. Listen to ‘Money Long’ and ‘Great Man’ here and check out the video for ‘Money Long’ down below.
