Gang of Youths, Dermot Kennedy set to rock SXSW 2018

South by South West (SXSW) is set to be a big one this year, and Secret Sounds are ready to host an epic party at The Sidewinder! The music, arts, and media conference festival in Austin, Texas is in its 31st year, and has become an iconic event that has seen many legendary artists perform there.

Secret Sounds are the team that is behind awesome Australian festivals such as Splendour in the Grass and Fall Festival, so you’re guaranteed to be blown away by the line-up.

The party will be running two hot stages, indoor and out, and a mish mash of local and international artists will be making an appearance and putting on a hell of a show!

To start festivities off, Ider, a pair of North London housemates will be showcasing their R&B folktronica hybrid sound to the masses. They’ve begun to pick up some real traction, with their single ‘Pulse’ being streamed over four million times!

Fellow London girl Nilüfer Yanya will also be bringing her unique vocals to the stage. After being signed by Blue Flowers Music, she has continued to go from strength to strength, and will be sure to put on a good show.

MC Buddy from California won’t have too far to travel for the party in Texas. You know you’ve got something special on your hands when you’re seeing an artist who has worked with the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Freddie Gibbs, and Miley Cyrus.

Proclaimed as “Britain’s best new band” by NME, Pale Waves will also be hitting the stage. The group from Manchester have been capturing attention following the release of their EP All the Things I Never Said, helping gain them over four million views on YouTube alone.

Liza Anne from Nashville is set to bring her folk style and panache to the proceedings. Many fans will be looking forward to her appearance, following her recent release of radio favourite project, Paranoia.

Starcrawler will also be making an appearance, bringing their LA style to the masses. They are scandalous, sexy, and a little sleazy. The rock bands signature tune, ‘I Love LA, has been on the radio all summer after they’ve signed with Rough Trade Records.

Perth’s latest leading lady, Stella Donnelly will be taking to the indoor stage at 4pm, making sure to feature well known tracks ‘Boys Will Be Boys’ and ‘Mechanical Bull.’  Her witty lyrics and guitar skills have been gaining her widespread exposure.

Another Australian songstress will also be taking to the stage later in the festival. G Flip has been having a big year so far, after her single ‘About You’ became a staple on triple j unearthed.  She’s since been signed by Pitchfork, and SXSW will be her biggest performance in her career so far!

South Central rapper royalty DUCKWRTH will be hitting the outdoor stage in the Texas heat. His catchy tunes will keep you singing along, with ‘MUCHUUL,’ and ‘I’m DEAD’ a loving nod to pioneering outfits Outkast and N.E.R.D.

Irish songwriter Dermot Kennedy will be one of the biggest headliners on the outdoor stage. While his name might not be familiar, his tracks like ‘Moments Passed’ and ‘After Rain’ are instantly recognisable. You know he is doing something right when he counts Taylor Swift and Sam Smith as among his biggest fans.

And finally, to close the party are our home grown heroes, Gang of Youths.  They’ve had an epic 2017; with a close-to-sold-out American tour, four ARIA awards, and three singles landing in Triple J’s Hottest 100. They’re not one to watch, they’re who you should’ve been watching already!

SXSW will be taking place between Wednesday 14th March to Saturday 17th March 2018.

If you can’t make it to SXSW this year, make sure to tune into the Secret Sounds Spotify playlist here.
