Review: Asta at Solbar, Maroochydore, 11 March 2017

8.5

Fans of indie pop singer Asta crowded the bandroom at Solbar on Thursday night to witness a beautiful performance from the young songwriter.

The release of Asta’s latest album Shine was exciting enough as it is, let alone seeing her perform the mystical songs live. With small groups of punters spread throughout the room and cooling down with a special ‘Asta La Vista’ drink, Felivand kicked off the show with vibrant tunes followed by AUSTEN who really energised the room with her spirited songs, vivid vocals and sweet dance moves.

Asta pranced onto the stage in a hot, glittery jumpsuit, to which the crowd absolutely roared and broke out into wild dancing. Looking exquisite as ever, she was straight into her tune Wild Emotion.

Asta was almost skin to skin with punters, reaching out to open hands and smiles all around. The band was outstanding from each side of the stage. When she spotted a group of men wearing Asta t-shirts, Asta glanced at the them and gave them a sneaky wink.

“The Sunshine Coast is beautiful, I can’t believe this is my first show here,” she said.

With the room bursting at the seams, Asta continued with her Triple J Hottest 100 hit from 2012, My Heart Is On Fire – unsurprisingly a winner with punters.

As she serenaded the crowd with her last tune Shine, groovy dance moves ensued as drinks were spilled and phones appeared to capture the moment.

She wasn’t getting away without an encore, and returned to the stage for a couple more songs including a soft cover of Whitney Houston’s I Wanna Dance With Somebody and her popular hit Dynamite.

Asta left the crowd delighted and filled with nothing but love – not just by her captivating voice and dance moves, but her alluring outfit and stage presence.
